Thomas F. Beasley

 
 

Topic: Early Recognition Mental Health, Addictions and Substance Abuse

Full Bio: Tom Beasley is a senior associate counsel at Coutts & Pulver. Tom received his Hon.B.A. (Economics) from UBC in 1975, M.A. (Economics) from Queens University in 1976 and LL.B. from Dalhousie in 1979. After articling in his hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Tom headed back west and joined a large Vancouver law firm, where he practiced labour relations and employment law for several years.

Later he became in-house counsel to the Employment Standards Branch for the Province of British Columbia, advising Branch officers and managers on complaints and policy, and representing the Branch in trials and appeals. He subsequently became in-house counsel to the British Columbia Human Rights Commission, advising the officers and managers on complaints and policy, designing dispute resolution systems and representing the Commission on judicial reviews.

In January 2003, Tom joined CWP, where he advises and represents clients in all aspects of labour relations and employment law, with a focus on human rights, employment standards, wrongful dismissals and judicial reviews.

Over the last 20 years, Tom has appeared in all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada as well as various administrative tribunals. He is a regular speaker at Continuing Legal Education Society of BC conferences and other continuing legal and human resource seminars.

Outside of law, Tom has held leadership positions in many provincial scuba diving and maritime heritage organizations and is a frequent speaker on underwater archaeology, diving and maritime heritage topics in BC and beyond.
