Workshop Presenter: Managing Absenteeism – An Integrated Approach to Addressing Non-culpable Absenteeism, Workers Compensation Claims, Sick Leave and Ability Management

Full Bio: Laurence’s professional background includes 10 years with the Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia, 4 years as a Director of the disability management arm of a major health care firm and 5 years as Western Canadian Attendance Management Practice Head. Workers’ Compensation experience includes various managerial assignments and hearing first level manager review appeals. Successful work with many unions in both private and public sector industries has enabled him to identify win-win sustainable opportunities for clients. He is presently responsible for Marsh Canada Limited’s Integrated Attendance Management Practice for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He has significant experience designing, implementing and managing programs that address occupational and non-occupational absenteeism. Specific areas of expertise include: Workers’ Compensation, Case Management, Vocational Rehabilitation, Disability Management, and Attendance Management.

Laurence has spent considerable time working in unionized environments and recognizes the importance of addressing collective agreement issues. The ability to recognize the unique needs of all stakeholders has enabled him to develop durable solutions that reduce the human and financial costs of absenteeism. Results include, improved operating margins, improved productivity, reduced premiums for the client and improved moral for employees. Laurence has consulted for various clients in a broad range of industries and organizations in union and non-union environments. Clients have included sawmills, mining, shipping, sanitation, manufacturing, school districts, provincial governments, cities, municipalities and a public health region.
